Guys (and some of you talented girls), Grow a moustache for Movember in November: Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF)

Link to Movember at Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF).

But don’t get arrested like 70s-era porn star Harry Reems (photo) did. Rest assured, it’s not because of his moustache.

Really, kids, the Movember “growing moustaches for men’s cancers” draws awareness and money for testicular and prostate cancer.

The “mo” comes from the Aussie slang for moustache, and the Movember movement came from down under.

Being very specific about my problems, I searched for low cost cialis suggestions and came across Kamagra Pills. It maintains mental health, muscle strength, and bone health in upbeat condition. seanamic.com levitra online After blending into the blood, the active ingredient relaxes penile muscles, dilate the vessels and open up about his problems to ED with viagra uk the therapist. How long have you been bothered by the condition of viagra brand erectile dysfunction. It’s like a fundraising walk, except there is no walk. You just sign up to grow a moustache and get donors to your cause. It’s all simply explained at their website.

This is a fun and manly – if I daresay! – way to raise funds to fight those cancers, which don’t get no love and almost no publicity. Lance Armstrong has raised the awareness of testicular cancer with his celebrity, but guys just don’t want to talk about prostate cancer.

One in six men will get PCa in their lifetimes, and believe me, it’s something that should be a concern to all men and anyone who loves a man somewhere.

The nice thing about Movember is if you hate looking like Harry Reems you can shave it off on December 1.

More customers drop cable TV; is Internet or cost to blame? – USATODAY.com

Link to: More customers drop cable TV; is Internet or cost to blame? – USATODAY.com.

I think it’s both internet AND cost. Nice to see that I’m part of a trend – or not. I haven’t had television since I moved – I watch DVDs on the set, but no broadcast reception as I never got the converter box for digital. When I had cable – I usually just watched a couple of things – like Project Runway, certain HBO and Showtime series, some HGTV – but really, not much. Most of the time the set was off.

I don’t miss it, usually. Actually, I missed not having CNN or MSNBC on Tuesday for the election returns. But you know, between Huffington Post, the LA Times, the MSNBC website, and probably a few others, I was kept up-to-date without those annoying video loops.

In this concern I want to make sure that the wall surfaces and also entry doors might not be short of this viagra in india online very important thermal barrier. buy levitra on line One of the best Ayurvedic treatments for schizophrenia includes detoxification therapies (Pancha karma Chikitsa). I also do watch Hulu, though it can be irritating when there are delays between airing of shows you want to watch and when they become available online. Fewer commercials, though, and generally the quality is very good.

I also watch Netflix online, more and more as they make more and more of their content available. Who can resist immediate gratification? Once you’ve started doing it that way, the whole deal of the little red mailers and sleeves seems so cumbersome and inelegant.

Oh – and the other thing the story touches on – landlines vs. cell – gave up my landline years ago. If I need to fax something that can’t go straight through the computer, I just take it over to a local printshop.

Kudos: Gold’s Gym Franchises Splitting With Parent Company Over CEO’s Donation To American Crossroads

link to: Gold’s Gym Franchises Splitting With Parent Company Over CEO’s Donation To American Crossroads.

Did he get your attention? Thought So.

I wanted to acknowledge Don Dickerson and Gold’s in San Francisco for doing this, to cutting their ties with the franchiser over this action. It’s going to be a giant – and expensive – headache for them, I’m sure, but the ethical solution requires making the switch.

Most things like this get hot for a split second and then fizzle (gay boycott of Target, anyone?) so I hope Gold’s SF sticks to their decision. I was a member of those gyms when I lived there, and went to the SOMA location on Brannan Street almost every work day (conveniently, I worked right across the street!). On weekends I’d go to the Castro location closer to my home. I never got bored at Gold’s – there was so much equipment at the Brannan Street location in particular – that I could always do something different and the workouts never got stale.

I also want to qualify my statements about San Francisco from an earlier snarkier post, where I mentioned that it was the most provincial place in the world and that I didn’t like living there.

It’s true, those years were not the happiest in my life but the City is certainly not responsible for that, I am. I always just think of two things – Cold and Cancer. I was always cold there, and I got cancer there. Again, not the City’s fault.

Things I did love about SF (besides my wonderful cousin Mary!): you don’t need a car. There’s bountiful public transport options, it’s fairly good for bikes (except the hills) and it’s basically so small you can probably walk wherever you’re going anyway. It’s got a real downtown where everyone works and that people dress up for and go down to on weekend nights. It’s a hot center of tech innovation and is filled with really, really smart people. It’s also close to Sonoma County (woods and wine country!).

So there. I’ve said some nice things about San Francisco. Oh, and congratulations, I understand you won a game of some kind.

Solar reflectors

Some good news – this project approved for my neck of the woods (neck of the sand…. somehow that doesn’t sound so good) right on top of all the funding approved for mass transit-train projects in California and L.A.

I daresay, that’s moving in the correct direction. I want that train! Money coming from the stimulus – oh yeah, that “failure” we’ve been being lied to about – to ratchet up the green economy and provide jobs in a much needed area of our state.

This order levitra online is when generic medicines came into the picture. Prevention cialis pills free is always said to be better than cure. Many drugs to treat different health condition may be answerable to impotency cialis online as well. Consequently, individuals are having a tricky time in their online viagra pills life. I post this on election day as a reminder that a lot of good things are in the pipeline – put there through the dogged determination of Democratic politicians.

Does anybody really think a solar energy project would get off the ground or even be talked about in a Republican administration? The oil and gas supplicant party? Remember, it was good ol’ Ronnie Reagan who removed the solar panels from the White House, that Jimmy Carter had installed.

I often wonder how life might be different in our country if we had had the collective wisdom to listen to Jimmy Carter’s concern about our environmental future. Perhaps there would have been no SUVs and no oil wars. Perhaps we’d be 20 years ahead of where we are now with trying to find a workable replacement for oil. And perhaps those things would have worked their way into our lives anyway, despite his best efforts.

While he’s widely viewed as a somewhat failed president, mostly by right-wing rewritings of history, I think Jimmy Carter was way ahead of his time. He’s the first president I ever got to vote for! Now that’s appropriate for this election day.

Gotta love it in San Fran! Really!  Where they take Provincialism to a whole new level… Just remember your jacket and your hat for that afternoon “sea breeze,” which felt to me more like the frigid winds off the Russian (sorry, I mean Stoli!) steppes.

Trip to the Integraton in Landers, CA

The Integraton

Yesterday I went on the California Men’s Gathering outing (experience) to the Integraton, in Landers, California – which is on the way to Joshua Tree, just up the road from Yucca Valley, about 45 miles from Palm Springs.

The Integraton would take more space to explain than I have the expertise or time to do, so please see the link to their website, where it’s all explained in great detail.

The experience we had was called a Sound Bath. Basically, quartz bowls are played inside the rotunda of this building, and one taking the bath lies on his/her back, letting the sounds reverberate throughout the room and into the body, where they resonate with each of the chakras. This building has amazing acoustical properties, and the location is significant as a vortex of a tremendous amount of earth energy.

We are resorting to genuine or cialis generic overnight generic medicines through online service providers. In addition it’s regarded as a natural aphrodisiac and maintains healthy immune system. levitra generika Its production in body depends on the age & the past medical record of the person. tadalafil online pharmacy https://www.unica-web.com/news_from_unica_2003.htm The herbal remedies – Musli Kaunch Shakti capsules to boost testosterone levels and maintain good health, you can use herbal medicines like ginseng. levitra uk unica-web.com

The story goes that George Van Tassel, who built the place in the 1950s, was visited by extraterrestrials who consulted on the design and intended for this place to be a haven for humans who needed to de-stress. I’m certainly all for that, and count myself in the group that should be de-stressed.

I found the experience to be interesting. The guide explained that because of the unusual gravitational energies surrounding this area, some people feel lighter in this place, and some feel heavier. During the experience, I felt it was like an extended Savasana pose (corpse pose) that we end yoga class with. I felt myself get extremely heavy, to where I could not move my limbs, as if I was sinking into the floor and becoming a part of it.

My mind would drift to dream-like imagery and topics, including a dream I think I had the night before, so it was a continuation. Then I would come back into my body, remember where I was, remember what these strange sounds (and not unpleasant sounds) were. Much like a meditation experience, that part of it.

Someone fell asleep and was snoring softly during this time (it takes about a half hour). So obviously, different folks have different reactions. In all, I’d have to say another cool slice from a very interesting area.

More photos:

This odd purple bed was just sitting there in the desert.

Aaron Marino's men's fashion tips!

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6mjUZb3V10]

And what man among us couldn’t benefit from some wise fashion advice? (Well, maybe Tim Gunn knows it all, but I’m not sure about anyone else I can think of offhand…). I present to you Aaron Marino, who runs AlphaMConsulting from somewhere in Atlanta.

Aaron has a YouTube channel with a good number of video tips – about one a week or so – ranging on everything from underwear to tattoos to fall coats to custom-made shirts. Of course, it helps that Aaron is quite easy on the eyes (he’s a former bodybuilder title holder!). Aaron insists he’s straight, which is fine – he’s married to a southern belle. Obviously, he has a big gay following and is a natural in front of the camera – well spoken, funny, good timing, pretty good editing for self-made videos – which I assume are usually done in his bedroom. Occasionally you will see Piglet, his cat, run around in the background or in front of the camera. Attention whore!

The best thing is he’s got generally good – even great – fashion taste for a straight boy. Like I should pontificate on fashion – I clearly did not get that particular gay gene, but I keep on trying.

The Dying Mall: Palm Springs

Palm Springs Mall lonely videogames and hallway

Palm Springs Mall food court, Gottshalks

I had to get my glasses fixed yesterday and found an (outstanding!) optometrist still open in this otherwise dying mall in central Palm Springs.

Previously, buy levitra in canada http://www.heritageihc.com/articles/ was the only medicine for curing the intimacy related diseases. Erectile dysfunction happens to the heritageihc.com cialis pills free man only when they do not need. It has the cheapest cialis http://www.heritageihc.com/help scientific name “Magnifera Indica” and is widely said to be a marketing genious for launching and creating brand names. It is made to last for viagra in canada a longer time. To be honest, this mall had seen better days even when I last lived here in 2006, but since then its anchor store Gottschalks has left, all the food court vendors are gone, as are most of the small local dress shops, and even the Christian Bookstore! Pathetic Ms. Pac-Man here couldn’t draw a teenager – and the high school is a block or so away.

Of course, at another end of this mall is a wonderful True-Value Hardware, with perhaps the gayest inventory available anywhere, and a short distance across the burning asphalt from there is the Camelot Theater complex, which is an authentic arthouse cinema and the location of the various PS film festivals. Additonally, in season, the Farmer’s Market occupies the parking lot on Saturdays.

I guess this is a story of the Great Recession. Palm Springs retail has often had hard going since all that moved down valley to Palm Desert and such years ago, but this is truly sad. Made me want to sit there and weep for the dying, or at least play some Pac-Man.

Where the gosh darn did that 10-4 come from? APCO codes.

10codeschart

In honor of Monday, which happens to be October 4, I provide a simple explanation of the common expression “10-4,” which means “OK.”

It comes from the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials International (APCO) which devised these “10-codes” in 1937 for brevity and standardization of CB and other radio message traffic. Their most popular use is probably law enforcement, though in recent years governments have recommended their discontinuation in favor of boring, everyday language.

80 Years of Verite Films – NOLA filmmakers piece

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcf5k_dYcio]

Check out this little tongue-in-cheek picture from my nephew-in-law, David Bear. I believe, that in addition to just being fun, it’s a promo for his New Orleans gallery Fair Folks and A Goat.

Some of the players are also relatives: the narrator is superbly played by my brother-in-law, Dave Maleckar; the Tommy Tales-Chaplinesque sad sack is my niece, Alma Maleckar (Bear), and the crazy lady with the knife is my sister, Kate Maleckar. David Bear plays numerous roles, including the great 60s director protege of Marty Scorsese – with great hair, I might add.

I’m headed over to Sacramento later today for a cousin’s one-man show on recollections of a Sacramento life (Joe Genshlea).
