Virtual Makeover part two:
In my discussions with Aaron Marino of Alpha M Image Consulting, we decided the first thing that could use an update in the virtual makeover was the head image! For me, this meant a new hairstyle and updated glasses.
Here’s a picture of pretty much what it looked like before:
I had always had short hair and decided to grow it out a bit a couple of years ago, but I agree, this looks kind of messy. Aaron suggested something very short, a buzz really, with some angled sideburns. This is what it looks like now:
I like it. Since we did this (November 2011?) I get it cut about once a month. My barber Ian keeps it looking neat and fresh, and I appreciate the fact that I don’t have to mess with such a short hairstyle (yes, I am rather lazy in that regard).
Aaron thought my older glasses (picture above) were rather bland, and I couldn’t really debate that issue with him. He sent me links to a bunch of different styles he thought would look good, and I matched one of those designer (Versace) choices with something a bit more affordable for me. This was the end result: new hair and glasses:
Shoes
Again, the virtual makeover process went something like this: I sent Aaron Marino pictures of my current sorry state of footwear. He evaluated and sent me back some fresh ideas, from which I could pick. I was mostly wearing a dirty old pair of black Skechers’ slip-ons – for pretty much every occasion except the gym.
Through the magic of Zappos I ended up getting a pair of Born’s (Born Davey’s), as well as a pair of dressier brown Rockports and black Moretti Type Z’s:
I wear the Born Davey’s mostly with jeans, and the other two pairs with dressier pants (we’ll look at pants in the next post). The truth is I do feel different when I take the extra step to wear something that’s both nice and flattering.
Of course, I still wear the Skechers to a local yoga class, mostly ’cause they’re easy to remove and throw in the corner. But that’s it for those babies. Next post on the makeover: Shirts and pants.
